Purpose: The purpose of cutting a 'D' shape is to allow the back end of your ski sink a little deeper in the water and force the nose of your ski to rise. This mod makes a tremendous increase in low-mid speed handling with minimal impact on high speed runs. Recommended for: highly recommended for all standups, all riding styles, riders < 215lbs
Procedure: If you have an aftermarket ride plate with chines, get rid of it and get a stocker. If you have an aftermarket extended ride plate with a smooth underside, cut off the extended part so it sits flush with the rear of the ski like a stock ride plate. - Remove ride plate, mark the exact center point of the back end of the ride plate, measure/mark three inches to either side and forward.
- Connect the dots to form a semi-circle with a 3in radius (trace it out with a can of something or a compass).
- Now take it to a metal worker to cut for $25 bucks or continue on yourown.
- If you continue on your own, a popular technique is to drill a couple relief holes along the circle using a bit large enough to accommodate a jigsaw blade.
- Cut out with a jigsaw or scroll saw.
- Clean up with a file orgrinding wheel.
- Reinstall and thank me later!
