Purpose: The purpose of this article to avoid injury and fatigue by documenting the proper methods to land and launch personal watercraft on the beach in surf conditions.

Launching:  The basic principle behind launching a ski is to drag your ski back in to the water backwards until it floats. It helps to lift the back end of your ski to waist level and drag the ski kind of on its nose. Once your ski is floating, quickly turn it around so that it faces directly out at the ocean. It is very important that you do not let your ski get even slightly sideways in the shorebreak. The ski will get lifted up and it will crash on your leg and break it. And remember to dunk the tail end of your ski a couple times to flush out all the sand left in the pump from beaching it.

Landing:  Beaching/landing a ski can be a little tricky. The basic principle is to shoot your ski far enough up the beach that the shorebreak will not knock it around. You really want to build up some speed and shoot up the beach after a breaking wave. I generally follow right behind a wave as it is breaking and then shoot up the beach a second or two after it hits the shore. Do not try beaching a ski as the wave breaks or in front of a breaking wave. You will not have a clean ramp and you will somersault over your ski and break your shoulder.

Exceptions:  Basic principles do not apply to heavy 2+ seater skis. Use your best judgment on how to manage these beasts. I've seen a lot of folks have luck just leaving their ski getting tossed around in the shore break. Ask for help if you must, but keep in mind monkey fcking a large ski around is very draining so don't take help for granted.
